The Asus Eee PC 1005 HA-P is the best netbook available now. Why? Read more.
I have had many mini-computers from the PC to the original Poquet Zeos Contenda, and more recently the Dell 700m. When I recently started to consider buying a netbook, I was impressed by the autonomy of the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. But as I have no good word-processing, keyboard and touchpad buttons are a real problem. When I heard about the Dell Mini 10v coming out, I ordered an upgrade from one to six cell battery and larger hard drive. To make a long story short, the trackpad button (in the trackpad, no less) a nightmare, and the battery on the bottom are in circulation, is an ugly compromise. Add the high operating temperature, which became worse than expected performance life of the battery and Dell. Then, Amazon posted a note on the description 1000HE to come, a spare computer with a link to a page for the 1005HA-P. The 1008HA was not a consideration, because the non-replaceable battery, and significantly shorter battery life. I received the 1005HA-P, July 2. The form factor of the 1005HA like a clam-shell works quite well for me. Although the glossy black case is nice, collecting fingerprints, but quickly with a soft cloth worries. I like the feel hard and soft sleeve that comes with it. The way the screen opens (see below and behind the Netbook) allows a smaller footprint if the case is settled, although the extent to tilt the screen boundaries. The keyboard has a touch sensitive buttons and larger (as 1000HE or my Dell 700m), and the vast right-key transfer is a real plus. Word processing is smooth and fast. I especially like the button in the upper left corner, which disables the trackpad - very useful to avoid accidental cursor movement. The arrow keys smaller in the corner bottom right represents a reasonable compromise, and I treated), the trackpad with the points raised (as opposed to some other reviews.
The Wi-Fi area has been better on the Dell, but acceptable on the Asus. I definitely have not experienced the problems mentioned by other speakers about the Wi-Fi. I used it on many different routers without problems. It runs MS Office 2007 without incident. Surfing the Web is a breeze, but I have a "Blue Screen of Death" in dealing with a sophisticated website. I have no other serious problems in the months since I had lived.
Battery life? I would say it is not too far from the advertising 10 hours, depending on your settings. The Atom 280 processor seems faster than my Dell 700m or 10 V mini (but this is purely subjective), and I plan to put the memory to 2GB, fortunately very easy with the removable door small print at the bottom. The bottom of the computer to become a little hot after long usage, but nothing like the warmth of the Dell Mini. I have not experienced problems with the battery charger of other commentators mentioned, either. It charges quickly and turn off when you're done. I connected a portable DVD player, and programs loaded without problem.
Over all, this machine is everything I wanted in a netbook. The lightweight, battery, keypad, which is not removable battery protruding, a bright screen to disable the trackpad button and general user friendliness, it can hardly be beaten. I find it very satisfying to use. Yes, I have a flight in the last days, and he is grateful for the small size if the person in front of me leaning their seat back all the way throughout the flight. I would not go with a laptop larger. Under the machine, the security checks at the airport is much easier than the same laptop with a full size, or 700m.
For those looking for a netbook for general use and Internet surfing, I do not think you can find there are better there.
