Asus Eee PC 1005 HA Seashell Review

It is characterized by an excellent balance of size and battery life as well as other standard features of a netbook. Let’s take a closer look at the netbook to know the details of this netbook before you buying.

Design

The Asus Ee PC ha in 1005 following the company's new "Design Shell", which they say is inspired by mussels. In the closed state, the system searches for the greatest the rear than the front, with its thickest point measuring at 1.4 inches. The hinges are designed so that the screen behind the keyboard, which slides we feel all a bit smaller. The build quality is pretty solid for a budget netbook, and no or very little, Flex, Flex plastic used to make the device.

Display

The screen is 10.1 inches Screen type Bright LED-backlit LCD panel with resolution 1024 x 600 native. Color and contrast are rich and vibrant glossy display but has the disadvantage of glare under strong light or sunlight. The vertical viewing angle with minimal distortion of color and the average horizontal visual angle was also good with the colors remain accurate even at moderately large angles.

CPU, RAM and hard disk

It uses Intel Atom N280 1.66 GHz (667 MHz FSB) processor with 1 GB of DDR2 SDRAM (667 MHz). The N280 processor is slightly faster than N270 CPU, which is commonly used in many other netbooks available. While not exactly a speed demon, it is enough for normal. Computing tasks like surfing the Internet, watching movies or working with some office software, and such a time. There is also an option to activate. A clock or underclock the processor, you can use to run faster or use less energy. The 160 GB 5400 rpm SATA hard drive is fast enough for normal use.

Graphics

Like many other netbooks, the system also comes with the same Intel GMA 950 graphics, so do not expect to play on this device. But you can enjoy the video URL from YouTube and Hulu, or even HD movies on them. Although it is 720 videos p can be in different formats to play, is the bitter truth about meetings 1080p videos. Also it should be noted that this netbook is not for watching videos in 1080p screen 1024X600.

Keyboard and touchpad

The keyboard extends from one end to another to make good use of limited space available. While size is not a full size keyboard, It offers a large keys, which are more comfortable with the design. Both shift keys are large enough to impress me, but he put the key in less interesting. The touchpad is average.

Ports

On the front and back, there are no ports. On the left side, there is power jack, VGA, USB 2.0, crack security lock, and a heat vent. On the right side there is a 4-in-1 card reader, a headphone jack, microphone input, two USB 2.0 ports and an Ethernet. The complete list of ports is very satisfactory for a Netbook.

Sound

The enclosure is built better than the normal speakers netbook. It can produce good volume levels without much distortion. The high range and average speed sound was good, but it lacked bass. The headphone jack was released from the distortion and offers a better solution for music lovers.

Battery Life

The battery is the most important element of this netbook. Although this sounds crazy, but it is true that the 1005 ha can provide up to eight hours in duration normal use in sleep mode, with its battery of six cells. Under heavy use should require at least six hours to fully comply with the continuous net surfing via WiFi in bright screen. Unlike the Asus Eee PC 1008 HA, this battery is removable, so you can take a spare battery if you need a little extra life from your system.

Price

$ 389 with a standard configuration of the Amazon. The price is slightly on the higher side of the netbook range.

Pros

  • Build quality is good for the budget netbook

  • The battery life is amazing

  • Route Port is good for a netbook

Cons

  • Thickness of a modern netbook

  • Weak integrated graphics

  • Bad touchpad buttons

Conclusion

It may seem at first glance it would be just another Eee PC from Asus, but if you look closely you will be very difficult to find improvements, or rather to say that I refinements to its popular line of products. This is well suited for battery life and also with a performance standard, comfortable keyboard and standards of quality construction you expect from a netbook laptop. Although it feels to have a screen with better resolution and graphics, configuration that you is worth its price.

Genuine value for money, a revelation

I bought the EeePC last week after my old Thinkpad finally died.

After considering all comments Netbook online and in some UK magazines seem netbook Asus started it all, so why not travel with the experts?

It is a remarkable piece of kit. Windows XP is easy to use, we all know and you do not and I am persuaded by the beautiful geek guys in the network that I can speed up the OS with a few tweaks, it will need to be .
But you will not.

OK, the screen is still fairly low, but when browsing the Web, you need nothing else, it's just not fast enough. Firefox is my browser of choice. Google yesterday, Chrome, I invited the evening ... it is probably better.

Remember, keep it simple. Check out "Your XP run faster" Tips from the network, what people are saying, this thing is a slick piece of real kit.

The picture quality is very good, it works Youtube vids without breaks, even in full screen mode, and the BBC iPlayer to work perfectly. I connected my BT home wireless connection in a minute (ref, please take the number on the back of the box wireless) and it ... that's it.

This is brilliant. It is clean, attractive design is something special, and the little Eee looks like it could be a piece of Apple equipment (bought a white) and "nice press F9 three times to return to the settings plant supply "Safety of May which of us are not too bothered with fine-tuning.

And here's the real proof performance: I Eidos Football Manager 2010 on line two months ago. Downloaded and - to my great surprise and joy of his son - works perfectly on the EeePC, despite the much higher chip demand and graphic requirements of the manufacturer.

So think about what you really need your laptop?
I really do not care machines they may be faster when they are from Microsoft, they are slow to load than Dumber OS software (yes, I have also suffered Vista)
I am a journalist and have suffered a variety of keyboards in more than 20 years. This is pretty good. The touchpad works well and is very similar to the old IBM Thinkpad machine that I used, but one can always find a big red-i-mouse for a few quid, if it really bothers you.

I'm really impressed. with the little EeePC 1005 ha (and still uncertain whether the N280 is bordered HAH 30 quid more) .. and it seems to be a bargain.

If nothing else, you will not be disappointed and if you want a bigger screen, you can also watch a plug-in.

1005HA-PU17-BU The Great Computer

My first impression is that this is a great computer. Below you will find more specific comments.

1) OS: Windows 7 Starter
Works great without any problems. I think 1 GB of RAM, it would be faster, but I can easily and firmly to my main purpose of this research is to live, writing paper, and on the Internet.

I have not had the chance to all of my software yet, but the Windows Office 2007 programs, BLADE Wiki, chromium and other commonly used, although I work. Windows 7 to run starter no more than three applications. I opened four.

Fortunately, I had no trouble Language Support (IME) for Japanese and Chinese. Have, in general, I also found some things a little more intuitive than XP or Vista. At this point, I see absolutely no reason for an upgrade to buy.

The inability to change your desktop picture is a way of marketing decision fiery that I hope Microsoft will reconsider its position. Not only that, but the wallpaper makes you look like a crack or dust on the screen have. You can get this and speed up your computer just in the process. In your Start menu, right-click My Computer, select Properties, Advanced system settings, performance and adjust for best performance. "My background is blue.

2) Screen
Surprisingly fresh and clear. Yes, it is small, but also the computer.

3) Keyboard
I have no problem typing on it. Some owners of past models Asus have also complained distorted space. In fact, the space bar, slightly elevated on the left side. But I think it was intentional. When you press the function key with the blue "Running Man" on the left, it passes the power settings (see comments below to find) an update on the keyboard.

4) Battery
I'm still not sure how to get the advertised 10.5, but I'm still the 9 + hours of it on the low-power mode. Unbelievable. The power supply is quite low and it seems to you very quickly.

5) Robustness / Quality
The computer feels surprisingly solid and less fragile than the expensive computer I bought in the past. This is not the most elegant computers there, but it seems well built. She has a wonderful absence of light nuisance. We have only the power light in the upper right corner. The blue LED is annoying (as happens on most computers today), but far fewer problems than the others there. When computer manufacturers, the power light would be back in the bottom right under my hand with the rest of the light, I would be grateful.

6) Scores
My memory is partitioned into a C and D drive. There are good reasons to create a partition, but I personally prefer no. It is relatively easy to change the score.

7) Bloatware
One or two programs (as far as I can tell) that I was able to remove quickly. Nothing at all like my last computer, a dozen.

Why Asus Eee PC 1005 HA-P is the Best?

The Asus Eee PC 1005 HA-P is the best netbook available now. Why? Read more. I have had many mini-computers from the PC to the original Poquet Zeos Contenda, and more recently the Dell 700m. When I recently started to consider buying a netbook, I was impressed by the autonomy of the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. But as I have no good word-processing, keyboard and touchpad buttons are a real problem. When I heard about the Dell Mini 10v coming out, I ordered an upgrade from one to six cell battery and larger hard drive. To make a long story short, the trackpad button (in the trackpad, no less) a nightmare, and the battery on the bottom are in circulation, is an ugly compromise. Add the high operating temperature, which became worse than expected performance life of the battery and Dell.

Then, Amazon posted a note on the description 1000HE to come, a spare computer with a link to a page for the 1005HA-P. The 1008HA was not a consideration, because the non-replaceable battery, and significantly shorter battery life. I received the 1005HA-P, July 2. The form factor of the 1005HA like a clam-shell works quite well for me. Although the glossy black case is nice, collecting fingerprints, but quickly with a soft cloth worries. I like the feel hard and soft sleeve that comes with it. The way the screen opens (see below and behind the Netbook) allows a smaller footprint if the case is settled, although the extent to tilt the screen boundaries. The keyboard has a touch sensitive buttons and larger (as 1000HE or my Dell 700m), and the vast right-key transfer is a real plus. Word processing is smooth and fast. I especially like the button in the upper left corner, which disables the trackpad - very useful to avoid accidental cursor movement. The arrow keys smaller in the corner bottom right represents a reasonable compromise, and I treated), the trackpad with the points raised (as opposed to some other reviews.

The Wi-Fi area has been better on the Dell, but acceptable on the Asus. I definitely have not experienced the problems mentioned by other speakers about the Wi-Fi. I used it on many different routers without problems. It runs MS Office 2007 without incident. Surfing the Web is a breeze, but I have a "Blue Screen of Death" in dealing with a sophisticated website. I have no other serious problems in the months since I had lived.

Battery life? I would say it is not too far from the advertising 10 hours, depending on your settings. The Atom 280 processor seems faster than my Dell 700m or 10 V mini (but this is purely subjective), and I plan to put the memory to 2GB, fortunately very easy with the removable door small print at the bottom. The bottom of the computer to become a little hot after long usage, but nothing like the warmth of the Dell Mini. I have not experienced problems with the battery charger of other commentators mentioned, either. It charges quickly and turn off when you're done. I connected a portable DVD player, and programs loaded without problem.

Over all, this machine is everything I wanted in a netbook. The lightweight, battery, keypad, which is not removable battery protruding, a bright screen to disable the trackpad button and general user friendliness, it can hardly be beaten. I find it very satisfying to use. Yes, I have a flight in the last days, and he is grateful for the small size if the person in front of me leaning their seat back all the way throughout the flight. I would not go with a laptop larger. Under the machine, the security checks at the airport is much easier than the same laptop with a full size, or 700m.

For those looking for a netbook for general use and Internet surfing, I do not think you can find there are better there.

ASUS Eee PC 1008HA Seashell 10-Inch

Asus tends to create an endless stream of other netbooks is well documented and it is a blessing and a hindrance. On the one hand, she held her trademark booming Eee PC in the foreground, on the other it has fostered in us an extreme cynicism at the mere mention of a new Eee PC or netbook. It is a fact not helped by the material largely immutable, not later than the offer from Asus, improves 1008HA Eee PC, all the questions. Regarding the equipment, it is as general as the other.

This lack of hardware options and shares a netbook for the next is extremely difficult. Battery life is often the most important turning point, and this is an area that has been identified in the rhythm, Asus, as is their latest 10in laptop, the Eee PC 1000HE shown. However, you can not beat the drum for the extended life battery is required before a small change, and Asus has listened to his credit, gives us the hull inspired 1008HA.

We say "Shell inspired, but is coming marketing jargon for" a little curvy "is not it? Motorola has not reached the "pebble" or Acer "Gemstone" Then Asus might just as well use these terms instead. In fact, it's a bit pedantic for a moment, what exactly is shellfish like 1008HA, anyway? Enter "shell" in Google Image Search and it did not really something that looks remotely.

Shell or not, but it is clear that the Eee PC 1008HA Netbook looks good. The wedge-shaped cabinet measures only 25.7 mm at the rear and 18mm at the front, so that even netbooks thinnest and lightest on the market the look and feel positively obese. It is a fact, the surprisingly low 1.1 kg weight gain. It is easy to kg on the significance of this brilliant, but the difference between 1.1 kilograms from 1.3 to 1.4 for most netbooks 10in is striking that it's a netbook which is a little easier worn around the day day.

Beyond its end and no problem, there are many small details that make 1008HA set a very interesting piece. Undoubtedly, its glossy black finish will produce a few groans for all the usual reasons, but it looks like and when you get the impression that something a bit more colorful then sell Asus will be white, pink blue and red.

Then there are the ports, all carefully hidden behind doors. Although a slight disadvantage certainly contributes to the research machine clean and tidy, while Asus has resisted the urge too inside with many buttons, status LEDs, or junk, with only the button of feed on the right side, toggle buttons for radio and wireless on the touch pad on the left and a quartet of status lights perfectly integrated into the hinge section.

1005HA: The Best 10” Netbook with some Limitations

There are three American versions of the Asus 1005HA:

- Best Buy offers the 1005HA-B for $ 299 (plus VAT). It has the N270 (1.6 GHz 533FSB) CPU, glossy widescreen display, 3-Cell 23Wh Li-ion battery (4 hours) and a 1.3 MP webcam. Excluded are the Bluetooth module, 10 GB of online storage Eee, netbook, and sleeves. Obviously the "Basic" model. I got this demo unit at Best Buy, June 27 and IMO, you waive all a lot for the ~ $ 60 savings on the "P" model. Not to mention that, ASUS will sell it already had a free 3 or 6-cell Li-ion.

- The V-1005HA is in the middle of the group and the only one with a matte screen. Those who often work outside or despise considerations appreciate the matted screen. It also has a processor N270, 6-cell 48Wh Li-ion battery (8.5 hours), 0.3MP webcam (according to Amazon, but it's actually 1.3MP May), no Bluetooth, and new netbook sleeve.

- (So in summary or is this shell?) The 1005HA-P offers a faster CPU N280, glossy widescreen display, 1.3 MP Webcam, 6-Cell 63Wh Li-ion with huge 10.5 hours of autonomy , Bluetooth v2.1 and a black netbook sleeve. Realistic battery values between 8.5 9am. battery life when you do with WiFi and email processing / word / YouTube / Web-surfing.

The bright LED display offers excellent color and contrast for outdoor use properly. I was also pleasantly surprised by the excellent horizontal viewing angles. Note that you could never in a room full of light or go outside to get the annoying screen glare. I used to me on a sunny day, and the screen is still readable. In fact, it was much more detailed than the matte screen on my Dell D600.

The three systems using the digital microphone array, which consists of two powerful microphones. Ambient background noise and echo reduction for clear voice. Also included with DirectSound (max. 60 °), then you'll capture a better voice quality. I tested the microphone with Skype, and it is loud and clear when we set well with Realtek HD Audio Manager. All models are also WiFi 802.11 b / g / n adapter and 160 GB HDD 5400 rpm My 1005HA-P contains a HTS543216L9SA00 Hitachi hard drive, and Atheros AR9285 WiFi card. Atheros chipsets are known for excellent selection and are generally less likely to break the connection. I want to emphasize that the AR9285 is only capable of 150Mbps.

The three variants of the ship 1005HA with 1 GB of DDR2 800MHz memory. The good news is that you remove the memory of the lower chassis and swap it out for 2 GB DDR2 200-pin SODIMM in less than 2 minutes. Amazon offers the Crucial 667 & 800 MHz modules for under $ 27th I installed a Crucial 800MHz Module (CT25664AC800) because it provides more space and freedom to leave his position at a lower FSB, if necessary. The 667-Clock module should be past its rated speed, but if your engine does not work, then it could lead to instability. I recommend making a Prime95 "Blend" torture test for 12-24 hours, your system is stable. The Eee Super Hybrid Engine utility allows users to overclock or underclock your Eee PC for better performance or to create better battery life, depending on their immediate needs. In the Super Performance mode CPU-Z shows the bus speed increases up to 169.9MHz, which translates to about 1.7 GHz. One way to quickly change modes is the key Fn + spacebar.

A small annoyance that the ad will not tilt back as far as some love. The case is a shiny fingerprint magnet. Some other things I want to emphasize is that you push the micro-size right angle end of the adapter until it snaps into place or does not do the battery to charge. In addition, food can get very hot when it is active, the battery, the Asus clearly mentioned in the manual loading and should not be alarmed by the heat. The final Quirk is that the hard disk is partitioned into two 80GB (formatted) partitions. Fortunately, we can solve a free utility using EASEUS Partition Master Home.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the P-1005HA satisfactory and it is without doubt the finest 10 "Netbook on the market. Please note that if you are a white / pink, you're on the" expectation " or "limited models. Asus has already had two above-mentioned color in Europe and Asia, so hopefully by the end of 2009, we will receive an option on the "P" model. Be sure to consult the community forum Amazon for this product is on the bottom of this page if you need further clarification. You will find many tips, tricks and general FAQ's.

How to Buy a Netbook

Netbook market is new and constantly moving. This buying guide Netbook, we'll explain what models are available today.

Introduction

The netbook term coined by Intel, provides little useful information on these types of machines. Course, they all have wireless networks, but so is every other laptop. What does the term identified was originally a class of small, super light, cheap-as-dirt-mobile PC.

Netbooks are small - usually between half and two thirds the size of a garden-variety laptop - and it usually weighs about 2.5 kilograms. Thanks to exceed their design, cool elegance, they send some ultraportables. And best of all, these small laptops start at around $ 200 (sometimes $ 100 if purchased as part of an agreement to promote mobile broadband).

But that does not mean a netbook for everyone. These are basic computer equipment, which is just the basic computing needs. If you do a little word processing, maybe a little simple editing table and you want to surf the Web, a netbook will suffice. But if you want to modify the high-resolution photos or work with video, a netbook is not for you: these systems are very limited power of computers. You can quickly listen to some tracks, but do not expect the sound chip. And you should be able to see some videos online, but you will get a relatively small screen.

In determining what is a netbook a netbook, not a laptop ultra-portable, we take into account several factors. Chief among them: price, size and processor under the hood. But netbooks are constantly changing, and we are now on the threshold of the next generation of models. Soon we'll see an Atom processor equipped with an NVIDIA discrete GPU) (platform ions. And Intel is not the chipmaker in the netbook space with half of AMD more in the field Athlon CPUs with Neo. The plates are moving. In that spirit, here's what you need to know when buying a netbook.

The Big Picture

While many netbooks have reached the market last year - and many others are on the way - that, in choosing the right model can be a difficult task. There is no such thing as perfection in a category that will ultimately be defined by compromise, but with a little soil in the bases of mini-notebooks, you can make an informed purchasing decision.

Data Explained

When buying a netbook, you do not have as many configuration options, as with other laptops, these machines are limited. But that does not mean that all netbooks are created equal.

Before going shopping for a netbook, the first thing you should consider how you use it. The first generation of netbooks identify targeted residential consumers - especially the students. After all, you can order one of these specific tasks affordable notebook in a bag, and it can take a beating too. But this class is logical machines for corporate users. Why laptop LUG great in the halls of an office complex with everything you need is a good keyboard and a wireless connection?

This thought led to the split provider netbooks in the economy and consumer sub-categories. Netbooks Corporate Pack several components of premium consumers of their counterparts. Of course, premium equipment, costly and business netbooks sell at prices over $ 600.

A summary of configuration options, refer to consider before making your purchase.

Netbook Shopping Tips

If you are convinced, a netbook will your requirements, and are ready to start shopping, here are some recommendations. Remember netbook specifications do not differ so much as a normal mobile. These requirements are the needs of users netbook average.

A 1.6 GHz Intel Atom. This processor is not a ton of power, but it will be enough for your basic computing needs. Most recent laptops use Intel 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, but you can also make some models with a 1.66 GHz Atom N280, which is also a greater rate of FSB (667 against 533 in the N270). Negligible in our performance tests, however, was the difference between these two processors.

Additional battery. Operators generally try and keep costs down by making a modest three battery that lasts about 2.5 hours if you're lucky. If you want to stay productive on your Netbook on the road, then you probably need to buy an oversize, long battery to power the computer. You can optionally use six batteries can be found for about $ 100. Note that these cells increase not only increase the price of a Netbook, but also their weight.

Screen 10 inches. You can find netbooks with screens smaller than 10 inches, and these models are people just beautiful costume. But if you can, choose a larger model, the bit of space extra light will make a noticeable difference.
A 120 GB hard drive. Yes, you see Netbooks with 60GB hard drives. But not limited, so a small amount of disk space if you can find models with 120 GB - or more - hard drives for the same price.
A beautifully laid out keyboard. You know, you compromise on size when you buy a netbook and it is the keyboard too. But smaller does not mean useless. Look for a model with a keyboard that is well designed and well appointed. Make sure the mouse buttons are properly placed, too.

At least two USB ports. Many netbooks offer three, but some of the smaller models have only two. You do not settle for less.

ASUS 1005HA: The King of all Netbooks

Before being part of what I think, in this device, here a small guide to the different tastes of the 1005HA:

1005HA-P (more)
N280 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz Front Side Bus, 1.3MP Web Cam, 10.5 hours of battery, Large screen, Bluetooth, netBook Sleeve
Available colors: black, blue

1005HA-V (Mid Range price)
N270 1.6 GHz, 533 MHz Front Side Bus, 0.3MP Web Cam, 8.5 hours battery, matte screen
Available colors: black, blue, white, pink

1005HA-B (the least expensive, best-selling buy)
N270 1.6 GHz, 533 MHz Front Side Bus, 0.3MP Web Cam, 4.5 hours battery, matte screen
Available colors: black, blue, white, pink

Which one to get?

It is difficult to recommend the B series offers the best buy, if you have to pay VAT. After the addition of VAT, you will be the price of the Series V, twice the life of the battery. The life of the battery is one of the most important characteristics of a netBook, I do not go cheap and less battery.

The decision between the V-series and P series to really make you care about a slightly different speed (if available), a small difference battery, better camera, Bluetooth, and / or netBook sleeves. For me, the other ~ $ 40 for the P series is highlighted. A single socket netBook costs $ 10 - $ 20 Bucks.

Pros:

- The P-1005HA and incorporates all the features you want in a netBook. Some ppl might be rather a screen resolution higher, but I do not think this is necessary.
- It is thinner than the 1000HE, then it seems so difficult.
- I think the new keyboard PS rival mini-keyboards. The right Shift key size was enough for me, my drops 1000HE.
- The best of this unit is the life of the battery. Do not you think your breath for any 10 hours a day. Expect to 7-8 hours with WiFi and Bluetooth Power Save mode. I anticipate 6-7 hours in the field of high performance mode.
- Windows 7 works like a charm.

Cons:

- The long life of the battery makes the device difficult. The weight is not a Show Stopper, but it is something to mind.
- Some ppl may not like the touch pad is compatible with the establishment of the unit. The Touchpad is bumpy u you will find in the dark. He told me one day to use it.
- The speakers are at the bottom of page before the camera, if I am on the bed, the volume was low.
- Update drive requires a lot of work and void the warranty.
- I do not know how long the button rockers for the touchpad. I prefer 2 separate keys.

If you are having 1000HE the 1000HA?

Since the lifetime of the battery at least the difference is the only reason to upgrade would be best for the keyboard. For me, it's worth it, because the right shift key on the 1000HE is boring. I rather the trackpad on the 1005HA but I can understand when he mixed reviews.

1005HA vs. 1008HA

I like the 1008HA is difficult for me to recommend, it is on the 1005HA. For $ 30 - $ 40 more, you will receive a USB port less, are available on USB, which is annoying, and you will have less than half the lifetime of the battery. Yes, the 1008HA is thinner and weighs less. I can not justify the additional cost for a device that looks great, but not less.

Bottom Line:

The 1005HA is really the best available netBook. It integrates all the functions you need in a netBook. It has the longest lifespan of the battery of a laptop. The keyboard is now so well that HP and Samsung netBook. Unless you're really on a tight budget, or if you have a smaller or less severe for the device, there is really no reason to buy another netBook.

Upgrades needed:

Make sure that the storage of this device. Do not believe that Windows 7 with 2GB Ram

NetBook do not come with DVD drives external, that is to say, an inexpensive one.

UPDATE:

It seems a debate on the use of memory 667 MHz 800 MHz recommended Our memory vis-à-vis vessels 1005HA. I read that the 800 MHz is an advantage, but I also read that the 800 MHz to 667 MHz is in progress, even if u overclock. This is a discussion on the shape eeeuser. Check it out for yoursef.
