How to Buy a Netbook

Netbook market is new and constantly moving. This buying guide Netbook, we'll explain what models are available today.

Introduction

The netbook term coined by Intel, provides little useful information on these types of machines. Course, they all have wireless networks, but so is every other laptop. What does the term identified was originally a class of small, super light, cheap-as-dirt-mobile PC.

Netbooks are small - usually between half and two thirds the size of a garden-variety laptop - and it usually weighs about 2.5 kilograms. Thanks to exceed their design, cool elegance, they send some ultraportables. And best of all, these small laptops start at around $ 200 (sometimes $ 100 if purchased as part of an agreement to promote mobile broadband).

But that does not mean a netbook for everyone. These are basic computer equipment, which is just the basic computing needs. If you do a little word processing, maybe a little simple editing table and you want to surf the Web, a netbook will suffice. But if you want to modify the high-resolution photos or work with video, a netbook is not for you: these systems are very limited power of computers. You can quickly listen to some tracks, but do not expect the sound chip. And you should be able to see some videos online, but you will get a relatively small screen.

In determining what is a netbook a netbook, not a laptop ultra-portable, we take into account several factors. Chief among them: price, size and processor under the hood. But netbooks are constantly changing, and we are now on the threshold of the next generation of models. Soon we'll see an Atom processor equipped with an NVIDIA discrete GPU) (platform ions. And Intel is not the chipmaker in the netbook space with half of AMD more in the field Athlon CPUs with Neo. The plates are moving. In that spirit, here's what you need to know when buying a netbook.

The Big Picture

While many netbooks have reached the market last year - and many others are on the way - that, in choosing the right model can be a difficult task. There is no such thing as perfection in a category that will ultimately be defined by compromise, but with a little soil in the bases of mini-notebooks, you can make an informed purchasing decision.

Data Explained

When buying a netbook, you do not have as many configuration options, as with other laptops, these machines are limited. But that does not mean that all netbooks are created equal.

Before going shopping for a netbook, the first thing you should consider how you use it. The first generation of netbooks identify targeted residential consumers - especially the students. After all, you can order one of these specific tasks affordable notebook in a bag, and it can take a beating too. But this class is logical machines for corporate users. Why laptop LUG great in the halls of an office complex with everything you need is a good keyboard and a wireless connection?

This thought led to the split provider netbooks in the economy and consumer sub-categories. Netbooks Corporate Pack several components of premium consumers of their counterparts. Of course, premium equipment, costly and business netbooks sell at prices over $ 600.

A summary of configuration options, refer to consider before making your purchase.

Netbook Shopping Tips

If you are convinced, a netbook will your requirements, and are ready to start shopping, here are some recommendations. Remember netbook specifications do not differ so much as a normal mobile. These requirements are the needs of users netbook average.

A 1.6 GHz Intel Atom. This processor is not a ton of power, but it will be enough for your basic computing needs. Most recent laptops use Intel 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, but you can also make some models with a 1.66 GHz Atom N280, which is also a greater rate of FSB (667 against 533 in the N270). Negligible in our performance tests, however, was the difference between these two processors.

Additional battery. Operators generally try and keep costs down by making a modest three battery that lasts about 2.5 hours if you're lucky. If you want to stay productive on your Netbook on the road, then you probably need to buy an oversize, long battery to power the computer. You can optionally use six batteries can be found for about $ 100. Note that these cells increase not only increase the price of a Netbook, but also their weight.

Screen 10 inches. You can find netbooks with screens smaller than 10 inches, and these models are people just beautiful costume. But if you can, choose a larger model, the bit of space extra light will make a noticeable difference.
A 120 GB hard drive. Yes, you see Netbooks with 60GB hard drives. But not limited, so a small amount of disk space if you can find models with 120 GB - or more - hard drives for the same price.
A beautifully laid out keyboard. You know, you compromise on size when you buy a netbook and it is the keyboard too. But smaller does not mean useless. Look for a model with a keyboard that is well designed and well appointed. Make sure the mouse buttons are properly placed, too.

At least two USB ports. Many netbooks offer three, but some of the smaller models have only two. You do not settle for less.

ASUS 1005HA: The King of all Netbooks

Before being part of what I think, in this device, here a small guide to the different tastes of the 1005HA:

1005HA-P (more)
N280 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz Front Side Bus, 1.3MP Web Cam, 10.5 hours of battery, Large screen, Bluetooth, netBook Sleeve
Available colors: black, blue

1005HA-V (Mid Range price)
N270 1.6 GHz, 533 MHz Front Side Bus, 0.3MP Web Cam, 8.5 hours battery, matte screen
Available colors: black, blue, white, pink

1005HA-B (the least expensive, best-selling buy)
N270 1.6 GHz, 533 MHz Front Side Bus, 0.3MP Web Cam, 4.5 hours battery, matte screen
Available colors: black, blue, white, pink

Which one to get?

It is difficult to recommend the B series offers the best buy, if you have to pay VAT. After the addition of VAT, you will be the price of the Series V, twice the life of the battery. The life of the battery is one of the most important characteristics of a netBook, I do not go cheap and less battery.

The decision between the V-series and P series to really make you care about a slightly different speed (if available), a small difference battery, better camera, Bluetooth, and / or netBook sleeves. For me, the other ~ $ 40 for the P series is highlighted. A single socket netBook costs $ 10 - $ 20 Bucks.

Pros:

- The P-1005HA and incorporates all the features you want in a netBook. Some ppl might be rather a screen resolution higher, but I do not think this is necessary.
- It is thinner than the 1000HE, then it seems so difficult.
- I think the new keyboard PS rival mini-keyboards. The right Shift key size was enough for me, my drops 1000HE.
- The best of this unit is the life of the battery. Do not you think your breath for any 10 hours a day. Expect to 7-8 hours with WiFi and Bluetooth Power Save mode. I anticipate 6-7 hours in the field of high performance mode.
- Windows 7 works like a charm.

Cons:

- The long life of the battery makes the device difficult. The weight is not a Show Stopper, but it is something to mind.
- Some ppl may not like the touch pad is compatible with the establishment of the unit. The Touchpad is bumpy u you will find in the dark. He told me one day to use it.
- The speakers are at the bottom of page before the camera, if I am on the bed, the volume was low.
- Update drive requires a lot of work and void the warranty.
- I do not know how long the button rockers for the touchpad. I prefer 2 separate keys.

If you are having 1000HE the 1000HA?

Since the lifetime of the battery at least the difference is the only reason to upgrade would be best for the keyboard. For me, it's worth it, because the right shift key on the 1000HE is boring. I rather the trackpad on the 1005HA but I can understand when he mixed reviews.

1005HA vs. 1008HA

I like the 1008HA is difficult for me to recommend, it is on the 1005HA. For $ 30 - $ 40 more, you will receive a USB port less, are available on USB, which is annoying, and you will have less than half the lifetime of the battery. Yes, the 1008HA is thinner and weighs less. I can not justify the additional cost for a device that looks great, but not less.

Bottom Line:

The 1005HA is really the best available netBook. It integrates all the functions you need in a netBook. It has the longest lifespan of the battery of a laptop. The keyboard is now so well that HP and Samsung netBook. Unless you're really on a tight budget, or if you have a smaller or less severe for the device, there is really no reason to buy another netBook.

Upgrades needed:

Make sure that the storage of this device. Do not believe that Windows 7 with 2GB Ram

NetBook do not come with DVD drives external, that is to say, an inexpensive one.

UPDATE:

It seems a debate on the use of memory 667 MHz 800 MHz recommended Our memory vis-à-vis vessels 1005HA. I read that the 800 MHz is an advantage, but I also read that the 800 MHz to 667 MHz is in progress, even if u overclock. This is a discussion on the shape eeeuser. Check it out for yoursef.
